Our Story *

For more than 75 years, Hoelterhoff’s Nursery has proudly served the community as a family-owned and operated garden center rooted in tradition, knowledge, and a passion for growing.

Our story began in 1947 in Chicago, when founder Ed Hoelterhoff started the business on Harlem Avenue. In those early years, Ed would haul plants and nursery materials by truck from the family farm in Bartlett into the city, providing quality plants and landscaping materials to customers long before garden centers were common.

As the Chicago suburbs expanded westward in the 1960s, Ed saw the opportunity to bring the business closer to where the family was growing their plants. Around 1965, the nursery moved to its current location in Bartlett, where it has remained a trusted destination for gardeners, landscapers, and homeowners ever since.

Over the decades, the area surrounding the nursery transformed from dirt roads and farmland into the thriving suburban community we see today. Through all that change, Hoelterhoff’s Nursery has remained committed to its roots—offering personal service, expert advice, and high-quality products for generations of customers.

Today, Hoelterhoff’s Nursery continues as a second-generation family business, providing everything you need to grow, plant, and landscape with confidence.
